LG 55EA9800 Cinema 3D 1080p Curved OLED Smart TV Review

LG-55EA9800-Cinema-3D-1080p-Curved-OLED-Smart-TV
If you havent seen OLED, you need to. By far the best picture I have ever seen on a television.Watching movies over is a blast as I can see details that I couldnt before. There is nothing bad I can say about LG 55EA9800 Cinema 3D 1080p Curved OLED Smart TV, it is replacing an award winning, high end Panisonic Plasma and there is no comparison. It has the brightness of an LCD and darker blacks than the best plasma. I truely think OLED is the future of TV and even with 4k, you will have the same issued with current LCD tvs. Also, there is very little 4k content, with current dvd players being 1080, and bandwith issues with 4k. Until those issues get fixed, I would stay away from 4k and get this OLED.Cant wait for the larger pictures to hit the market

The physical design of LG 55EA9800 Cinema 3D 1080p Curved OLED Smart TV is a thing to behold. I’ve seen it at stores and at CES in Las Vegas but it was always displayed next to a wall or another TV. I put it on a table that (for the moment anyway) is in the middle of the room. Everyone who has visited is amazed at both the curved design and how very thin the screen is. I had a washing machine repairman at the house last week and he stopped mid-room and asked “Sir, can I look at your TV?” Of course I said yes. I eat that sort of feedback up like candy. The back is very clean and has the “classic” carbon fiber pattern to it. The very narrow bezel means that it takes only 4 inches more horizontal space than the 46” LCD it replaced.

The set can’t be wall mounted and the clear “ribbon” stand can’t be removed. I wasn’t planning on getting much sound from the see-through speakers in the stand but I was pleasantly surprised. Half volume was plenty loud for normal viewing. For a set of this level, I’d suggest a full home theater surround sound set up, of course. You wouldn’t want to do a sound bar on this set – it wouldn’t look good next to the clear stand.

The Picture of LG 55EA9800 Cinema 3D 1080p Curved OLED Smart TV. What can I say? This is the best picture of any TV I’ve ever owned. Black is the absence of light and that provides infinite contrast. The set is pre-calibrated at the factory. The THX mode is perfect in every respect – at least as much as the calibration equipment that I have can determine. You can’t adjust THX mode. ISF Expert modes 1 and 2 are also calibrated but you can adjust those if you feel the need.

I’m not going to post settings as I didn’t need to make any changes. One thing. Some programming will look much better on an OLED than on a LCD set – most Blu-ray movies, TV shows that have a lot of dark backgrounds and moody lighting. But shows that are very bright – sports, talk shows, and scripted shows that are filmed with limited contrast—won’t look that much different. I see no changes in picture quality regardless of viewing angle. You can stand facing the end of the set and the parts you can still see (mostly the opposite curved part) still looks great.

The curved design really isn’t noticeable when sitting in front of the set. I forgot about that aspect of the design almost immediately.

The remote control I’m less happy with. It’s a virtual mouse device. You wave it in front of the TV to move a cursor around. Unfortunately the remote goes into sleep mode very quickly and I have to shake it to wake it up. You can control other devices but that’s done through an onscreen menu. So stopping a movie playing on Blu-ray means clicking the menu button, shaking the remote awake, move the cursor to the stop button on screen, and clicking. I’m sticking with my universal remote. The LG 55EA9800 Cinema 3D 1080p Curved OLED Smart TV remote is RF but the TV still listens for IR signals too. However, there’s no way to learn commands with a universal remote beyond the default codes built in.

LG 55EA9800 Cinema 3D 1080p Curved OLED Smart TV Review Pros and Cons:

PROS:
  • Amazing contrast performance
  • Sensational design
  • Spectacular colour
  • Exceptional Blacks
  • Superior brightness
  • Highly accurate color out of box
  • Eye-catching curves, razor-thin profile
  • Loaded with features
CONS:
  • Curve creates viewing angle issues
  • It's not 4K
  • Can’t be wall-mounted
  • Disappointing motion resolution
  • Minor brightness uniformity issues
  • Lazy pixels may appear disconcerting

LG 55EA9800 Cinema 3D 1080p Curved OLED Smart TV Features

  • Stunning design at only 4.3mm thick at its thinnest point. Stunning picture quality with Infinite Contrast that ranges from the most blazing white to the darkest black. And, 4 Color Pixel that displays images so vivid you'll forget you are watching TV.
  • LG's advanced 4 Color Pixel technology adds an unfiltered, white sub-pixel to the traditional red, green and blue. The result? A brighter picture with a wider range of colors and superior color accuracy for more true to life and vibrant images.
  • LG OLED TVs have an almost infinite contrast ratio. With self-lighting pixel technology, it can range from blazing white to the darkest black. Higher is better, and "Infinite" has been impossible? until now.
  • Ignoring the screen for a bit, the 55EA9800 has all the features of an LG Smart TV. We still think the interface for the Smart TV functions needs a big update in terms of design, but all the elements are there, including a good range of apps.
  • The 55EA9600 uses the LG Magic Remote but also has a regular remote for people who don't enjoy the wizardry of the on-screen pointer. The Magic Remote actually seemed more responsive with the 55EA9800 than it has felt on other TVs, although that could be just our perception of the experience.
  • There's also a USB camera that can be attached to the top of the TV and plugged in via a special USB port on the rear, letting you use the video and gesture functions, as well as voice control.
  • While there are no buttons on the TV, there's a touch panel under the LG logo, where you can access basic functions like channel, volume, input and even on/off.
  • In all, we saw very few differences from other current generation Smart TV offerings from LG. A quick note on the sound from the built-in speakers: it's better than you'd expect but still not exactly great. Thin panels don't leave a lot of room for big sounding speakers, so while we applaud what LG have done, we think a TV like this deserves a good surround-sound system to go with it.
  • TV without stand (Width x Height x Depth): Not Applicable, TV with stand (Width x Height x Depth): 48.3 x 31.4 x 7.6 Inches

LG 55EA9800 Cinema 3D 1080p Curved OLED Smart TV Specs Details

  • Model Number: 55EA9800
  • Display Technology: OLED
  • Display Size: 55 inches
  • Image Aspect Ratio: 16:9
  • Image Contrast Ratio: "Infinite Contrast"
  • Resolution: 1080p

It would seem LG still has a couple of bugs to iron out, but we kind of expect that from first-generation technology. Even so, this TV looks fantastic, and it shows that OLED appears to be in a great position to deliver the picture quality of today’s best plasmas in an ultra-thin frame similar to LED televisions. Yes, it’s expensive. We knew it would be. But this TV is a sign of things to come. It’s a little glimpse into the future and is presently a tough TV to produce. That means early adopters will pay handsomely, but they’ll also be rewarded with something unique and ground-breaking. As for the curve: We’re just happy the gimmick (ahem…design) didn’t get in the way of the picture quality. We’ll be wall-mounting OLEDS like cheesy prints from Target soon enough. In the meantime, why not have something to get excited about?

LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV Review

LG-Electronics-55EG9600-55-inch-4K-Ultra-HD-3D-Curved-Smart-OLED-TV

This LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV shows a lot of promise for the technology, LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV is LG’s best 55-inch 4K Ultra HD TV. An OLED TV gives you many advantages over LCD and LED TVs. The black levels of LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV are the best of all screen technologies. The viewing angles are fantastic, with no loss of contrast. Another advantage is speed, which is important when viewing fast moving action. LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV is many times faster than LED and LCD displays (0.1 microseconds refresh). Perfect Black There are no backlights as each pixel is self illuminating. LG is the leader in OLED TVs. Not only is this an OLED TV, but also a 4K Ultra HD TV with over 8 million pixels of resolution. This is four times the resolution of Full HD, giving you a stunning sharp picture, even in 3D. Most TVs have a 3 color pixel. LG has added a fourth, a white sub-pixel to the conventional three colors (red, green and blue). The LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV technology will enhance the color range and accuracy for more realistic colors. The curved screen will give you a more immersive viewing experience. The LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV is a 3D TV as well and comes with 2 pairs of passive 3D Glasses. Watching 3D on a 4K OLED TV is a real treat. This LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV includes both an HEVC(H.265) and VP9 decoder for 4K streaming video from online providers such as Netflix and Amazon.

The goods far outpace the bad on the LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV and I am very happy for my purchase:
  1.  TV passes Dolby 5.1 via optical out only for streamed sources. And sources inputted via HDMI get converted to PCM. Fix is to direct audio sources direct to your amplifier per LG advice. Did not have this issue with Sony-so its a LG design issue. Several web based comments saying that LG dummies the input signal to PCM.
  2. I have seen observable improvement in picture sharpness, blacks and clarity with run time even during the 2 days since it was delivered. I would rate picture quality better than my Sony X900A 4K and I love the webs interface as compared to Sony.
  3. The “standard” setting for picture is as good as my Sony XBR900A, The only adjustment I made was a small increase in color setting (up 10) to perfect skin tones
  4. Build quality of TV is great. No pixel issues and no banding (first turned on 4/11/15). Color is accurate enough out of the box that I have nothing positive or negative to say about it. UHD Blu-Ray content still does not exist, so there is very little content that can actually be used to properly test the expanded color gamut OLED is capable of producing. For cable and traditional Blu-Ray, the TV has no trouble at all and the TV does not try to incorrectly apply a wide color gamut to broadcast television as I have seen Samsung plasmas do when set to "auto."
  5. Energy consumption is absolutely stellar for such a high-contrast display; it uses about 1/3 as much power as my 55" Panasonic VT60 while producing an image many times brighter. Further, it generates next to no heat compared to any comparable plasma and of course no buzzing.
  6. LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV speaker sound is “tinny” with little bass. I use a LG soundbar as primary audio with my BOSE for movies. I would not be happy with the TV speakers-recognize I was used to the Sony x900A speaker system. The LG soundbar (NB5541) audio quality exceeds the Sony X900A speakers. The speakers are so-so. They're pretty respectable for built-in, but not at all what you expect when a venerable name like Harman/Kardon is involved. I have an actual Harman/Kardon stereo soundbar underneath this TV, ironically. The soundbar is quite possibly the best sounding on the market, the speakers in this TV on the other hand are far from it - my 11 year old SONY 34XBR960 CRT has better built-in speakers
  7. I was told to use the “standard setting” until breakin period is over (BB said 1 month)-well the “standard setting brightness exceeds the brightness of my Sony x900A with a Vivid setting
  8. No discernible motion issues and no banding issues with both broadcast and BluRay
  9. Blueray and 3D Bluray is exceptional. Much more depth and clarity, exceeding 3D experience in a theater. MUCH BETTER 3D than the Sony x900A which also is a passive 3D system
  10. The LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV “sound link” system is not compatible with Sony version. I had to turn off the Sony HDMI control on my Sony BlueRay player or the LG OLED would not allow me to shift to another HDMI source when I turned off the BlueRay. I have the LG sound link ON as well as Auto power on, and all seems to be OK including the soundbar integration of volume control and power
  11. The LG apps are “skimpy” at best. Not a lot of selection as compared to Samsung or even Sony. The LG store allows you to download added items like Crackle. Of note, the present LG provided app for Amazon video on demand (streaming), does not support 4K for this EG9600 model. Amazon says they will be updating the app to make this model support 4K Amazon video. Also the new service “Ultraflix) is not supported on this TV (no app)
  12. Very hard for me to relate to other forum members as to picture technicals. I am happy with the quality and darks, and sharpness but again I am not a video tech person like others. I do not see any striping as others have complained about
  13. WebOS 2.0 and this year's updated remote control are also a sign that LG's ready to be taken more seriously as a player in high-end televisions. Samsung still has the best smart TV implementation by far, but I would go as far as to say LG has produced a more intuitive smart TV than Panasonic VIErA. However, the choice not to include an SD card slot seems a little unusual - this is standard equipment on all other comparable smart TVs.
  14. The LG Electronics 55EG9600 55-inch 4K Ultra HD 3D Curved Smart OLED TV guide does not update as to programming. It lists the channels but not the scheduled program,. So I will use the Comcast X1 guide vice LG guide
  15. This EG9600 only has 3 HDMI inputs. and since I use the ARC HDMI 2 for the soundbar, it limits by inputs. The LG soundbar has a HDMI input, but it does not pass thru the signal unless I change modes of the soundbar which shifts the TV back to internal speakers This new 2015 OLED from LG is an exceptional TV and the best I have ever owned.

LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV Review

LG-Electronics-55EC9300-55-Inch-1080p-3D-Curved-OLED-TV
LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV is for those of you who want to cut right to the chase, this LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV is the best television I have seen, owned and used. It blows away any and ALL LCD based televisions and easily compares with the best of plasma's and beyond that.

LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV build quality is excellent. The stand is metal, not plastic and is heavy enough to steady the TV. The screen of LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV is glossy and therefore reflective. Don't place bright lights anywhere near it or you will see them. The curve is not that much really, and after viewing for a few hours it DOES seem to suck you into the action more, especially if you are sitting dead center. I did notice some reflections from the center hitting the sides when viewing 4:3 content. It is minor and nothing to worry about.

The LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV takes a bit of time to boot the first time as it is busy loading the OS. Also, it is advisable to immediate do a firmware update via Ethernet cable. Restart the TV and proceed. If you don't know LG TV's there is an on board users guide that can take you thru each function and also balloon help is available for each function. (you can disable that when you have seen enough)

You get their newest 'Magic Remote" but I use my Harmony One and only use their remote for cursor functions.

Ok, let's get to the "good stuff" LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV:
No Flashlighting
No Halos
No Clouding
No Banding
No Dirty Screen Effect, And for plasma owners:
Low power consumption
No buzzing
Runs very cool
Very Lightweight and easy to lift

Pros and Cons of LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV

The Good The LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV's picture betters that of any LCD or plasma TV, with perfect black levels and exceedingly bright whites. It's equally adept in bright and dark rooms, showed accurate color, and looks better from off-angle than any LED LCD. Its 1080p resolution is plenty for a 55-inch screen. The TV looks striking in person, with organic curves and an insane 0.25-inch depth on most of its body.

The Bad Albeit the most-affordable OLED TV yet, the LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV is still very expensive for a 55-inch TV. Its video processing and color accuracy don't measure up to that of the best TVs, and the curved screen introduces some artifacts.

The Bottom Line The LG Electronics 55EC9300 55-Inch 1080p 3D Curved OLED TV lives up to the promise of OLED with the best picture quality of any TV we've ever reviewed.

Once the time passes, you can start to use it like any other HDTV, with a few minor changes to your usage habits, just to keep the thing working perfectly over the years.

Many users have reported using the 9300 with any and all content immediately and with no regard for burn-in from letterbox or 4:3 aspect ratios. These same users have reported no discernible damage to the panel after such use. I am the nervous type and will continue to baby the panel for a few more weeks before watching 2 or 3 letterbox films back to back. However, many HAVE done so and report that there appears to be no discernible damage to the screen. This is good news. Very good.

GOOD NEWS for gamers! I had previously stated my opinion that game play may possibly be harmful to this panel, but the newest user reports seem to suggest that may not be the case and almost all gamers that have purchased the 9300 are absolutely loving it and have no reports to date of burn-in as a result.

Ok, those of you who are impatient may click the "Check Special Price' button.
